What are lice?
They might be tiny enemies, but they torment us and make us very upset, as removing them is not one of the easiest things. Lice are small brownish-gray insects that live on the scalp of humans. These are wingless insects with six legs. This practically means that they can not fly to be transported from head to head except by direct contact. It is transparent with a length of 3-4 cm and due to the fact that they feed on blood, they cause skin irritation, resulting in intense itching.
During the life of the female lice which is 40 days, she can lay eggs up to 10 times a day. These eggs attach to the hairs and in 8 to 10 days the well-known nits are born. Both lice and nits cannot survive away from the scalp for more than 24 hours, because they become dehydrated and die.
Tip: Lice prefer a warm and humid environment. So you can find them behind the ears or at the base of the neck.
